The Mind Electric 3DS Cover DEMO2

Description: This music video was made for the Creation Jam. It is a cover of a portion of the song The Mind Electric, which is part of an album, Hawaii Part II, which is one of the inspirational media for this jam. Additionally, to work towards the derealization theme, I have used strange synthesizer settings to cause the song, which consists of three versions of the same part of The Mind Electric, to become more distorted and warped over time. This relates to the theme of derealization as it harnesses the sort of feeling of having the world around you shift and distort, and is meant to relay similar feelings. My project incorporates music as well as film, as it consists of a video of me performing the song live on my 3DS by selecting each portion of the song one after the other. The background and filming style were also taken into consideration. Once I get the required dongles I plan to upload a clean sample of the audio, but for now, this music video will do!

Here is the website I used for visualizing the notes for the song The Mind Electric, and here is the website that features the software that I used to do this. Essentially what I did was match the notes on the sequencer website onto different tracks on my synthesizer, then tweak settings until it sounded right. For the second segment, I copied the first and distorted it further; for the third, I did the same to the second. I would like to cover the entire song some day, but it gets extremely complicated later on, and I am satisfied with the amount of the song that I have covered. This was a great experience, because I have never covered a song before, and I know very little about reading music or composing music, so I learned a great deal! I plan to cover more songs like this in the future, as it has helped me learn so very much about music composition as well as my funny little 3DS synthesizer. :)
